Quando ha tagliato il traguardo ero molto incazzato. Come accade solo a me non sono riuscito appieno a godermi quel momento perché la mia attenzione è stata subito presa in ostaggio dal fatto che mancasse un contorno adeguato.
Gli Argentini hanno sacrificato il mondiale classic, la regina delle gare, il 10’000 in pista dei sentieri, il cross “duro” dove vengono fuori i valori, su un percorso che ha tolto interamente lo spettacolo, che ha allontanato il pubblico dal centro dell’azione, che non ha concesso il bagno di folla che gli atleti meritavano ed avrebbero potuto avere con solo un pò più di oculatezza.
E’ uno dei miei mantra, ormai so di nauseare, ma siccome barcollo ma non mollo io imperterrito continuo a dire che Premana 2017 deve essere presa e messa nell’agreement contrattuale per chi voglia cimentarsi nell’organizzazione di un mondiale classic, perché E’ COSI CHE SI FA, punto.
Torniamo al “momento”, è quello di Angela, dell’attimo un cui ha tagliato il traguardo nel silenzio generale e con gli applausi di 4 addetti ai lavori che avevano potuto avvicinarsi alle transenne. Dei “clap-clap” che potevano essere distinti chiaramente mentre lei si portava le mani al volto incredula e scoppiava a piangere di gioia.
Era diventata campione del mondo junior di corsa in montagna, la prima azzurra dopo Rosita Rota Gelpi, 27 anni dopo un’azzurrina sul tetto del mondo, e non un’azzurrina qualunque.
Angela Mattevi tecnicamente non posso e non potrò mai valutarla, ma umanamente ciò che sa trasmettere con le proprie prestazioni e la propria normalità mi emozionano enormemente ogni volta. Angela ama la corsa in montagna ed ama stare nel gruppo che Paolo Germanetto ha saputo creare in mezzo a tante difficoltà. Angela soprattutto incarna quello che eravamo, che abbiamo smesso di essere e che, speriamo, saremo di nuovo: un nazionale di atleti che nella montagna vedono un’opportunità e non un ripiego, che non fanno distinguo da atletica di serie A o serie B, che amano visceralmente ciò che fanno e sono più forti di ciò che sta loro intorno, pronto a travolgerli in una ridda di facili trionfalismi.
Angela Mattevi si è presentata con il titolo europeo di Skopjie 2018, ha corso un gran mondiale a Canillo, con Alessia Scaini ci ha fatto sognare e di nuovo sentire importanti.
A Marzo di quest’anno ha imposto all’entourage federale la propria presenza al raduno della squadra di corsa in montagna, pur malaticcia ed alle prese con obiettivi importanti come il mondiale di cross (sontuoso 35° posto ad Arhaus con rimonta finale da spellarsi le mani, by the way) non voleva mancare allo spin-off della stagione. E’ andata a Zermatt ed è stato argento dietro a Barbora Havlickova, cui ha reso la cortesia in Patagonia per coronare una rincorsa entusiasmante che le ha regalato l’iride.
Domani tocca ai prati di Lisbona, un Europeo under 20 che sarà tutto da vivere e da seguire, dove il cuore di noi montanari batterà un pò più forte per questa trentina un pò stralunata che inanella brevetti sportivi, che si è diplomata nella Civezzano patria del camoscio Antonio Molinari, che sta al proprio posto e tra dritto per la strada che la sua passione per lo sport le indicano.
Domani vada come deve andare, lasciatemi però sognare che non molli la montagna che ci entri da senior, che faccia una nazionale con Valentina Belotti e ritrovi Alessia Scaini per correre insieme e formare una squadra memorabile, lasciatemi credere che un giorno andrà ai mondiali classic da senior e con la sua consueta faccia da “non so bene cosa ci faccio qui” entri in gara e voli sui sentieri, che “le metta via tutte” e ci regali un altro urlo mondiale, magari non succede, ma se succede….
Per ora, solo GRAZIE !

EuroCross2019, dreaming with Angela Mattevi, back to the future!
When she crossed the finish line I was pissed off. As it happens only to me I was not able to fully enjoy that moment because my attention was immediately taken hostage by the fact that a proper outline was missing.
The Argentines have sacrificed the classic world championship, the queen of the races, the 10,000 on the trails, the “hard” cross where the values come out, on a course that has completely removed the show, a race which has moved the public away from the center of the action, which did not grant the crowds that the athletes deserved and could have had with just a little more attention.
It is one of my mantras, now I know I am sick of it but I will not give up and I continue to say that Premana 2017 must be taken and placed in the contract agreement for those who want to organize a classic world championship because YOU SHOULD DI IT IN THAT WAY, period.
Let’s go back to the “moment”, it’s Angela’s one, the moment when she crossed the finish line surrounded by the silence and with the applause of 4 people who were able to get close to the barriers. A few “Clap-clap” that could be clearly distinguished as she brought her hands to her incredulous face and burst into tears of joy.
She had become junior mountain runner world champion, the first Italian since Rosita Rota Gelpi, 27 years after a light-blue on the roof of the world, and a special one.
Angela Mattevi, technically, I cannot and I will never be able to evaluate her, but what she is able to convey with her performances and her being so normal thrills me enormously every time. Angela loves mountain running, and loves to stay in the group that Paolo Germanetto has been able to create among so many difficulties. Angela especially embodies what we were, what we stopped to be and what we hope to be again: a national team of athletes that see an opportunity in the mountain running and not a fallback, that do not distinguish athletes from Serie A or Serie B, but simply something they really love to do and showing every time that they are stronger than what is around them, ready to overwhelm them in a jumble of easy but empty triumphalism.
Angela Mattevi presented herself with the European title in Skopjie 2018, she ran a great world championship in Canillo, and with Alessia Scaini made us dream and feel proud and important again.
In March of this year she imposed her presence to the mountain running team training camp, besides being unhealthy and struggling with important goals such as the world cross (a great 35th place in Arhaus with an incredible final comeback, by the way) she did not want to miss the spin-off of the season with the mountain team.
She went to Zermatt and it was a silver medal behind Barbora Havlickova, to whom she made the courtesy back in Patagonia to crown an exciting run that gave her the world gold.
Tomorrow it is time for the mud of Lisbon, a European under-20 race that will be the centre of the stage, where the hearts of mountaineers will beat a little stronger for this crazy Italian who loves to obtain sport patents, who has graduated in Civezzano, homeland of the “chamois” Antonio Molinari, who simply run and enjoy what she’s doing.
Tomorrow it will go as it should go, but let me dream that you do not give up the mountain, that you will enter as a senior, that you will face a national team with Valentina Belotti and find again Alessia Scaini to run together and form a memorable team, let me believe that one day you will go to the Classic Senior world championships and with your usual “I’m not sure what I’m doing here” face, you will enter the competition and fly on the paths, that you “put all of them away” and give us another world scream, maybe it doesn’t happen, but if it happens….
